Search Engine Management : 7 Search Engine Resources You Should Be Using Now

Ask any business person with a top search engine ranking if his/her site is making money, and the answer is almost always "yes". The fact is, search engines can generate an enormous amount of traffic, and unless you are doing PPC, the traffic is free. In order to ethically and effectively market in the search engines, however, you need web marketing strategies that actually work.

Below are three ways to effectively, and ethically, improve search engine. Note the seven available resources that will help you implement these strategies, as well.

  1. Optimize your site - To make sure you properly target your market, your web marketing must use the right keywords. This means optimizing your site to assure keywords on your site are relevant to your meta tags and your target audience.

There are two tools that help with search engine optimization:

    1. Search Engine Optimization Fast Start Ebook - teaches simple and effective techniques for optimizing your site. This ebook is now in its 4th edition, is completely up to date, and is one of the best I've seen on search engine optimization.
    2. Web CEO- This is a complete search engine optimization suite that offers 10 different optimizing tools. It offers the most comprehensive, and step by step, set of instructions I've ever seen with any software package. According to the instructions, you can get started in one hour. The free version of this software will work for most, but it also includes a $97 search engine optimization course as part of the package.

  2. Develop a linking strategy. One factor that influences search engine placement is link popularity. The more inbound links pointing to your site, the higher your search engine ranking.

For each link pointing to your site, there is an opportunity for a potential customer to find you. With credibility being such a big problem on the Internet, to have someone recommend you increases your chance of making the sale.

To help develop an effective linking strategy, I recommend Linking Matters. This ebook outlines developing a quick, effective linking strategy.

  3. Develop a content strategy. The truth is, "Content is King". Most people online are looking for information. The more information you provide your customers, and the more valuable it is, the more likely you will make the sale.

There are three effective ways to develop content. The first and most effective strategy are articles. Articles actually work for you in several ways.

    1. Brands you as an expert so that customers come to you.
    2. Provides valuable content to your potential customers.
    3. Builds a relationship between you and your potential customers.
    4. Creates a viral marketing strategy for your site.
    5. Builds a linking strategy every time a webmaster reprints one of your articles.

No other strategy that I have employed has brought me more business than this writing articles. Once the articles are created, distribute it for reprint at any number of online directories.

If the thought of writing your own content gives you nightmares, there's a way around it. You can use public domain information. Public domain information is information available for free because it's in the public arena, or the copyright has expired.

To help you easily locate this information, I recommend that you download the public domain toolbar. This is available at the Public Domain Forum. You'll need to register an account to get the toolbar, but both are free. The toolbar is a very comprehensive resource of public domain sources.

The third content strategy to consider is blogging. A blog allows you to create search engine friendly content on your topic of interest. Combine this with an RSS feed, which the search engines love, and you have a winning strategy. It helps build content for the search engines, and can raise your traffic and sales.
